Dear customers and partners,

First, I’d like to thank you all for your understanding. You may have been affected during the difficult period that followed the flooding at our Louiseville plant last August. As of today, you’ll be able to notice that the service levels you’re used to are back.

What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. We are now looking ahead with confidence and are driven by the desire to maintain the bond of affinity that unites us. We’ll remember this event for the cohesion and resilience of our team, and the generosity of the people who helped us get back on our feet.

I am pleased to announce a series of major investments. We confirmed the acquisition of Edge Printing equipment, which will be operational by June 2025. This technique also enables the creation of special editions and help making books stand out in bookstores. Edge Printing offers a wide variety of options (e.g., designs and patterns).

The Edge Printing equipment is just one element in our 2030 Horizon plan, which contains over $25 million in new capital investment to give you access to a more efficient products and services offering.

For the next few years, automation will play an increasingly important role for both rotary presses and book binding. This means that Marquis will be able to bind two books at a time. In addition, automation of end of press and packaging processes will increase the production capacity of some of our equipment by up to 25% at our Louiseville plant.

Marquis – Commissioning of the 2023 Muller Martini Diamant MC 60

Marquis announces the commissioning of the 2023 Muller Martini Diamant MC 60 hardcover book production line with in-line dust jacketing at its Toronto printing plant.

Marquis is equipping its Toronto facility with state of the art hardcover production line: the new 2023 Muller Martini Diamant MC 60.

This solution provides fully automated servo-controlled functionality on the production line to produce 3,600 hardcover books per hour. The Diamant MC 60 comes equipped with the latest quality control components, including an automated in-line dust jacketing machine for complete finishing of hardcover books. These capabilities enhance our customer offering, increase our productivity and our product options, and improve our turnaround time.

This isn’t the first time Marquis has installed a new binding line with Muller Martini. “It’s a continuation of a strategic partnership we’ve enjoyed with Marquis for years. We at Muller Martini are proud of our long-standing relationship with Marquis, and plan on continuing our mutually beneficial relationship with the installation of this automated hardcover book production line that follows our Smart Factory and Finishing 4.0 ideologies,” said Andy Fetherman, President and & CEO, Muller Martini NA.

“In addition to our new Heidelberg colour press in Montmagny, the imminent installation of a new Timson press in Louiseville, and our additional investments in automation, the Diamant MC 60 line will increase our production capacity for hardcover books. This latest addition completes another chapter in our Horizon 2025 investment plan,” said Gino Labrie, Interim President.

Marquis Standardizes Daily Operations Management in its Three Plants

Marquis Book Printing’s senior management wanted to standardize daily management at its three manufacturing sites. Supervision requirements and problem-solving procedures are similar between the Montmagny, Louiseville and Toronto plants. Tervene was chosen as the tool for daily operations management.

Since 2019, Tervene’s digital tool has been helping supervisors and managers carry out their daily work at Marquis. The company has standardized multiple scheduled management responsibilities: audits, inspections, meetings and Gemba walks. With Tervene, supervisors perform their tasks in collaboration with the support departments and senior management.

A management platform like Tervene eliminates the administrative burden and reduces the transcription associated with forms, planning meetings and compiling reports. According to Eric Bouchard, General Manager of Marquis, digital solutions help to speed up decision-making and resolve issues in the field.
